Why does Live Update report socket errors or unable to connect even though my internet connection is up and running and my proxy settings are filled in correctly?
This article relates to an earlier version of Live Update. We recommend you install the latest version of LiveUpdate using the procedure below:
- Download the latest version of LiveUpdate from www.prokon.com/download/LU25.zip, and save it somewhere on your computer.
- Run PROKON, open the Tools menu, choose Install downloaded update, and browse to the downloaded file.
- Run LiveUpate from the Tools menu as normal.
Live Update uses the FTP protocol in passive mode by default. Many proxy servers implement a FTP over HTTP proxy which is not supported by Live Update.
As of version 2.1.17 Live Update switches to HTTP automatically if FTP fails. Some corporate networks also do not have ICMP available, version 2.1.16 removed a dependency on ICMP.
